MISC: Jake has several scars spread across his body. However, he chooses to keep them hidden for the most part.
PERSONALITY:
Sinner: Maybe there was some point in his life when Jacob was more of a saint but he'd have to say that it would be boring to go back. Though he has given up addiction for clarity, that doesn't mean he will ever be anything less than the boy who breaks every heart that ever dares lend itself to him. In a way he's grateful to have a clear head, it makes the fall from grace all that much more poignant. This aspect of his personality means that he can be rather spontaneous and without restraint. Surely the devil had a hand in the making of the man Jacob has become and can only grin at this point.
Vengeful: Maybe in some deep piece of him there is a want to get a bit of revenge on his father but overall his vengefulness is more so directed at the world around him in general. He likes to find what will cut the deepest in another and will use it when they betray him. Of course they need to first want to trust him.
Charming manipulator: If the snake in the garden of Eden had half of the charisma that Jacob Kavanagh has then Eve would have found herself eating more than a mere apple. All those years of needing to hide who he was for the sake of approval has taught him well the talent of remaking himself into what will rip the heart right out of another and lay it in his hands. For some its boldness and for others its thinking that there is a piece of him that is shy. There is some possibility that the real him is still under the masks but heaven help the one who goes looking for the boy that even angels have given up on.
Saving grace: Everyone has to have one and it is possible that if he ever allowed someone to get close enough that he'd believe in having a chance at it. What he doesn't fully realize is that he has a talent of seeing people not for what lies on the outside but who they are at a deeper level. He can see the good, he just normally decides to corrupt it. He does have the capacity to be kind but its rare. Still, for someone who has long since been the villain it might be surprising on the day that he comes to terms with wanting to be the hero. Certainly he knows every wrong way of being but such a path runs parallel to the one of doing the right thing.
The hopeful soul: In many ways Jacob feels things deeper than others. This is true of the want to be loved. The problem lies in how he tests others with the expectation that they will fail him. He knows that he is broken but he is so used to it that he doesn't think anyone else would want to deal with it. Still, there is hope even in that dark truth. Over the years there has ben a lover or two that he has considered letting in. Its always a train wreck waiting to happen and all he can seem to do is stand there on the tracks waiting to be hit.
Oh so Clever: It is this aspect of his personality that attracts others the most. For all the viciousness and the chance of getting burned, there is something to be said about how he can make another laugh. Its often sarcasm with a mix of naked truth. He likes to be shocking but to do so without putting his own flair on it wouldn't be Jacob. He actually likes to laugh far more than he likes sitting there with some mysterious brooding expression.
SECRET(S): Jacob was the one to find his mother’s body, he can remember every lover and friend he has ever had. In fact taking drugs was mostly about the want to ease how he has perfect recall.♦ THE HISTORY ♦FATHER: David Kavanagh
MOTHER: Rachel Kavanagh (deceased)
SIBLINGS: Michael Kavanagh (Older brother)
WORTHY MENTIONS: Step-mother: Vivian Olsen-Kavanagh, Step-sister: Julianna Olsen
CHILDHOOD: Jacob’s childhood seemed to be defined by a single photograph. An image that defined grief and had become famous in its own right. Two boys, one marked as older by the inches he was taller than the boy beside them. Both young faces damp with the tracks of their tears but expressions so blank that those who viewed it could only speculate that they were numb inside. Until that moment they had both escaped the spotlight in spite of their father’s building political career. Yet, on that day the media captured them graveside with broken hearts and the light fall of snow caught up in their hair. It was a moment that he couldn’t forget and that would change everything. Sometimes Jake still wonders if the boy before that photo smiled easier or would have had some slim possibility of loving without the cruelty he held fast to now. Maybe that boy would have had a chance at being better.
In the weeks to follow the photograph appeared on the front pages of countless magazines. Meanwhile, in their upscale home slowly every picture of the woman who had inspired such emotion were being taken down and placed in storage. It was almost as if by doing so there would be closure, that they could all move on and just forget. Jake knew that would be impossible. How was he to dismiss her memory when it was so vivid, when the only times he had ever felt loved were when she was there?
The media made her into an example of tragedy and his father took the opportunity to expand his platform. It was all so methodical and so unlike the woman who Jacob remembered as laughing easily and showing kindness when she knew so little of it. They said she was an addict and had been trying to hide it for years. That wasn’t how he remembered her though. She was the one who came in late at night to curl up beside him in his far too little bed. She was the voice who sang to him when he was scared and who assured him that if he just closed his eyes it would be better. What the media never captured were the bruises and the excuses she always gave. They made her into the villain and forgot all the rest. Their print was ugly but it was the truth he had been told to accept.
For years he tried to hang on to the little boy she had loved. He did everything that he could to please his father. Jake imagined that if he was just good enough, if he was the best at everything than his father would have to love him.
He was wrong and once he realized that he decided to burn himself out on rebellion.
ADOLESCENCE: Some of us are born set on self destruct because it might be the last great thrill out there.
One thing that Jacob Kavanagh was good at was the ability to be unforgettable. He should be considering it became his sole obsession. Blessed (or cursed as the case might be) with an eidetic memory, he was determined to make himself the boy others recalled easily when they looked back at their teenage years. To say he was wild would be an understatement. He took lovers without ever promising to be more than that moment they’d wish forever to live within. He began to say the things few dared to and lost himself to whatever drug he could get his hands on.
What did it matter anyways?
It wasn’t long before the media began to take new pictures of the boy a nation had once wept with. Jake seemed able to hunt down a scandal and blow it up to atomic proportions. For a couple of years his father tried to put up with it. Jacob bounced back and forth in rehabilitation centers but he always went right back to his addictions as soon as he could. It was all unbecoming of the son to a United States senator.
So it wasn’t much of a surprise when he got shipped away to a school overseas. It put him an ocean away from continuing to be an embarrassment. However, it did little to lessen the impact of his past or tame him.
ADULTHOOD: Jacob appeared poised to burn bright and fast until the day his flame went out. The boy he had been was a ghost now, a stranger he sometimes dreamed about but no longer could understand. He kept waiting to hit bottom, kept wanting the curtains to be drawn down and this stage act of a lifetime to come to an end. Waiting and in that he realized that there was never going to be anyone coming to save him. No one was going to see that under it he was in pain, that he was trying to scream while he was drowning. He was too far out to sea and lost unless he learned to swim.
It took a long time but eventually he began to drag himself back. In a way it was all he had left. He was fueled by anger and knew that what he wanted most was to become exactly what no one thought to be possible. He remained incorrigible and every bit that boy who danced at the edges of what was acceptable, but he did manage to lay down a few demons. He broke the habit of reaching for anything that could cause him to forget and learned how to deal with all the things he didn’t have answers for. However, there is still not a single person who knows the real him. He’s just learned to accept it.
Jake is still not the best student but he now shows up for classes and has spent a few nights up late to study more than anatomy. For now that’s a lot closer to shore than before for this boy with a broken heart in his eyes every time he smiles.♦ THE PLAYER ♦USERNAME: Grim
